BT Home Hub & Broadband - Is it really any better?

Since I have been on broadband I have never been with BT (too tight cos they were always so dear!!
).
Were I live you can't get any of the really cheap deals I used to be with Pipex on a great deal for years then when they hiked their prices I moved to Plusnet which is now £12.99 a month broadband only.
I have noticed that BT prices are much better now it's £16 a month for broadband and all calls which we now pay about £18 for and you get 4 months free + cashback which would be quite a good saving overall. I also see the TV advert telling me how great the Home Hub is so I was thinking of changing to them.
So I was just wondering are BT any better, seen as we can't get any of the cheap deals all the other companies are still going through BT anyway would I get a better service and speed reliability being with them and using the home hub? I know It's not loads of hassle changing......just one more thing to do! But I would happily do it if I notice a real difference!

It's very easy to change ISP - especially if you avoided using the old ISP email.
You see very few adverts saying get our service because we supply !!!!! kit. You'll get no better performance from a BT hub than any other comparable wireless router although you might find some other features handy.
Watch what download you get. BT are notorious for sending warning emails about usage to their own email only which many never use then slapping on a huge overuse charge. I think somebody said they'd been stung for £150 a week or so back.
I personally wouldn't touch BT as an ISP but millions do and I can only assume most are happy with them.0 -

Na,
Just done for simplicity, I pay for my phone line rental and broadband through them. Less hassle really
My internet is crap, I just can't be bothered to waste my time speaking to scripted monkeys who will then mess up my internet more.Owner of andrewhope.co.uk, hate cars and love them

I have BT only because i want BT Vision, happy with what ive got. the only complaint was when i was only whatever gig download, say 5gb i was going over for several months sometimes by 2 or 3 gig. one month a massive 6 gb, anyway i changed to a 10gb download and have not had a prob since, which leads me to believe that their counter was rubbish. surely i would of hit over 10 once if my useage hadnt changed. but thats another story.Div 1 Play Off Winners 2007

Ive had no bother with BT since ive been with them bar the router dropping out once or twice but im guessing all routers do this.
Its really up to you and what you want from your provider.one of the famous 5

The problem is it's quite easy to crunch 10gb in less than a month. I chomp through 30gb without even trying, wathing lots of video on youtube doesn't exactly help.bordercars wrote: »I have BT only because i want BT Vision, happy with what ive got. the only complaint was when i was only whatever gig download, say 5gb i was going over for several months sometimes by 2 or 3 gig. one month a massive 6 gb, anyway i changed to a 10gb download and have not had a prob since, which leads me to believe that their counter was rubbish. surely i would of hit over 10 once if my useage hadnt changed. but thats another story.
Last time I checked when I was surfing internet (no youtube or videos) I went through about 20gb a month. Windows is a swine for updates. Always downloading them
It could be any one of the 3Sgeordieracer wrote: »Ive had no bother with BT since ive been with them bar the router dropping out once or twice but im guessing all routers do this.

Exactly. And the same goes for every other provider really. When i used to have fibre optic that still went down from time to time aswell - even when hardwired. Just the nature of the infrastructure/equipment i guess.
I reckon most of all it comes down to CS when something does go wrong and how you get dealt withone of the famous 5

It does
That's why I don't speak to BT tech support.
You get what you pay for literally.
I remember reading somewhere BT got rid of 125-500 jobs down south. Last time I called BT callcentre in India they said they had 5000 staff
