Proving ownership of car

In May this year, my great grandad died and the executors of his will, my gran and dad, decided that his car would go to me. Today I received the registration certificate in my name and saw that it strongly states that it is not proof of ownership.

What would I need to prove that I'm the owner of the car given these circumstances? Thanks for any help!

do you need to prove you own it? you're the registered keeper and that's all you need for pretty much everything.

you've got the registration document, the keys and the car. There isn't any document that's proof of ownership

A receipt or letter from the executors will do. This is more to cover off that registration is exactly that.
This is more to do with the fact that handing over the V5 does not guarantee that you own the car - a finance company, or the person you stole it from ( :) - Joke) may well still have a claim of ownership on the car.

There's no need for me to prove ownership of it right now. I was worrying about anything in the future cropping up where it might be needed.

It shouldn't be. as long as there was no finance on the car (or it has been paid off) it is all yours.

    5t.
What if there was no such thing as a rhetorical question?

Although a receipt or letter won't prove that the car wasn't stolen before you got it.

The V5 is usually as much proof as you need but the wording is just there, like Richard mentioned, in case it's a stolen car..

The executors handed the car over to you so therefore that is your proof. A V5 only provides information of who is legally responsible for the car for parking tickets, speeding fines etc.
