Damp problem

Every time it rains I get a damp patch on the bedroom ceiling where it meets the chimney. Only a relatively small amount of damp - measures high but not really visible. Chimney seems sound, lead work replaced, roof felt replaced, ventilation increased. No water getting into roof (paper laid out but stays dry whilst plasterboard under it gets damp).
Evidence of old leak in loft.
Could plasterboard itself be shot?
Any ideas appreciated.

You say everytime it rains you get a damp patch on the ceiling so I assume it dries out when it isn't raining and must therefore be an active leak. Rather than just an old water stain that's there all the time and could just be sealed and painted over?
Its very unusual to have damp showing in that position without it also being present on the chimney breast aswell. I'd have a much closer look at the chimney breast, both in the loft and the bedroom to see if there is still a problem with the chimney stack.0 -
Have you had the chimney swept recently? If there's a birdsnest or other blockage in there the rain might all collect and seep through. I can't quite picture where this damp patch is coming through but this was my immediate thought. Without seeing it though, it's impossible to guess.0

The ceiling and bedroom wall dry out to some extent but never completely even in the blazing heat of last week. The brickwork measures dry where it meets the ceiling. I swept the chimney some time ago - it has an old asbestos flue.
Any further thoughts0
