Can I bank a cheque made out to my Middle & Surname rather than First name?

I agree, Dirk. Should be absolutely fine.
If the cheque is intended for you then there's nothing wrong with trying to pay it in.
If it's not intended for you (e.g. a cheque for my dad would appear to be made out in my middle name plus surname) then if anyone notices you'll get in trouble. But if it is your cheque and an administrative error means the name is wrong, even if they notice that the name is wrong yuo won't get into trouble as far as I can see. You'll just have to get a new cheque written.0 -
What about a shortened version of first name you usually go by? eg bob for robert, andy for andrew etc.. has/ does anyone do that?0

Yes, I'm sure I've banked cheques made out to "Jim" rather than "James" before.cashpoint_charlie wrote: »What about a shortened version of first name you usually go by? eg bob for robert, andy for andrew etc.. has/ does anyone do that?
Again, I can't see anyone being interested.0 -
My son has just received a cheque for Christmas made out to Wilbert Smith, but his name is Wilfrid Smith. Do you think the bank will accept it? It is Britannia Building Society if that makes any difference.0

As per previous answers, if the cheque is honestly meant for him then I can't see any bank being bothered by it.chunkychocky wrote: »My son has just received a cheque for Christmas made out to Wilbert Smith, but his name is Wilfrid Smith.
