does anyone know of a travel insurance that cover‘s you for a relatives pre existing medical condition that might cause you to cancel your trip. My Mum was diagnosed with cancer this year I booked my trip to the USA last October my trip is now just 4 weeks away her condition has got worse just lately and am not sure if I could leave just in case I am needed. my current insurance comes with Bank account and does not provide cover for this situation. any useful info appreciated.

I don't know of any insurance you can take out after you know of a claimI am not a cat (But my friend is)0

I haven't made any claim but would like to know if I could if something happens before I travel0

You've missed my point. You seem aware that a claim is likely from your first post. To take out a policy just to claim for something you know about is fraud.I am not a cat (But my friend is)0

I think the correct wording would be
'possible claim'
OP, dont think you are going to find any insurance to cover you for this situation.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
Yes that's it a possible claim not fraud ( alter ego )obviously if this situation was covered the premium cost would reflect this as I booked the holiday last year whilst she was ok I had insurance then as it comes with bank account but in is renewed in Feb and was days before she was diagnosed0

are you sure you are not covered?
if your mum was well when you booked the holiday and bought your insurance then unless you were psychic you would not know of a possible claim.
also check your household insurance if you have the legal cover you can call them for advice and you may be covered under this policy.
did you pay by credit card? you may be covered here.
pre existing medical cover insurance is not available to you now and even if it was it could cost £00's, I know I have been there and some refuse completely dependent on the risk.
Sorry to hear about your mum, cancer research website has lots of info as well as a chat forum with lots of nice people on there:cool: Wisdom doesn't necessarily come with age.
Sometimes age just shows up all by itself
In the end, it's not the years in your life
that count....it's the life in your years

Sorry, I can't agree with "Possible claim". All insurance is taken out to guard against possible claims. In this case the OP has indicated a likely claim.I am not a cat (But my friend is)0

Thank you for your comments I’m afraid that I paid with a debt card and its not covered on house insurance although she was ok when we booked Oct 2010 the insurance was automatically renewed on it’s annual anniversary in late Feb 2011 and she was diagnosed in early Feb 2011 so not covered never mind I just keep fingers crossed that she will be ok and I can enjoy my long awaited and expensive holiday0

Well I always thought you took insurance to cover the possibility that you might need to make a claim and therefore not loose monies paid you sound like you work for an insurance company0 -

I suppose this is the downside of annual policies because had you bought an individual policy to cover this 1 holiday in october then you would have been covered, you would think that as the policy was just reaching its annual renewal date and you'd had the holiday booked before you knew your mum was ill that it should be covered but the insurance companies always seem to be covered in these situations. I wonder how many other people could be potentially in this situation and not realise.0
