Glass Splashbacks and Upstands

I am seriously considering Glass as opposed to tiles for my kitchen.
I have seen in many home magazines and also in Show Rooms I have visited. My kitchen will be completed at the end of this week and I am awaiting a quote from a Grazier who is local to me.
They will toughen glass paint to whatever colour etc I wish for a small extra cost. They apparently then it is baked after the colour is applied I am told that the it will be colour fast and that it will carry a 10 year guarantee.
Anyone got any experience of this? Currently I am looking at colour and despite buying 4 different sample I am still not sure. The Company doing the work say that it is a colour a Designer would choose but that it is a brave choice. No not RED. but a sort of sea green or fairly strong turquoise.
Many thanks Sue

They look best in bold colours! The colour you want doesn't even sound that far out! What's wrong with a designer's colour choice anyway? I mean, they do it for a living!
I learned a long time ago not to bother listening to design advice from tradespeople. H comes home saying stuff like "they're worried because you wabt a green/matt/gloss front door or sparkly/textured/large format/mosaic tiles". frankly. You're living with it and you know what's best!Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

I have a clear glass panel behind my cooker. My wall is red...
Works absolutely fine, easy to clean, and is toughened glass from the local glazier. He knew what I wanted it for, and suggested the grade of glass.Loving the sunny days!0 -
I just had mine done last week. I went for full height splashbacks all round, not upstands and splashbacks as I can be a messy cook!
Looks very impressive in bright yellow and is a striking contrast against the colour of the units and the worktop.
Be warned, though, they aren't cheap.0 -
I would not want painted glass, that sounds really tacky (even after the paint dries!). Glass comes in a range of colours including sea green."A nation's greatness is measured by how it treats its weakest members." ~ Mahatma Gandhi

Thanks for the advice. No it is not just painted glass it is a special process and is very much in vogue at the moment. There is no grout as in the usual tiles situation.
You are right in that bold colours do work very well. Saw a kitchen in a Showroom and the glass was lime green. Looked fantastic and it is one of the reasons why I am choosing to have glass.
It is not cheap but then the tiles I was looking at were £176 per sm
It is a small kitchen white gloss and as has often been said by many people who visit me is that I have got a good eye for colour. I have a dark worktop and floor and feel that this splash of colour would give the kitchen that something it lacks for now.
I am going to follow my heart and choose what I want rather than the advice been given by others.
Cost wise I have got a rough estimate for £500 around that is without fitting. They will customise the colour it for a small extra fee. I would go for a cheaper option at half the price but the colour choice is very limited. This glass is not toughened so a no no for me.
Again thanks
