Dont do it, yes you can get them but honestly stay away.0

The tiles are not special. It's the adhesive that's different and any tile store will tell you what to use.
Just saw the post above and that's rubbish. Had a proper tiler to do ours, not a cowboy and it's a superb job and 2yrs down the line you wouldn't know any difference.
We chose the tiles from Tilegiant and he supplied the adhesive and grout.0 -
It is not rubbish, a extra layer of tiles creates more weight to the wall, if the wall is not strong enough then it could create problems to other parts of the house. A professional should never tile over tile unless the customer insists.0

Foxy's post has some truth to it. tiling over tile does add to the weight and if the existing tiles are loose in any way dont risk it. also if your new tiles are very large the weight can get excessive - plastered walls can only support so much weight.
That said tiling over tiles has been going on for years, and in many ways it can be a good base as its flat and level. most good trade adhesives (granfix, bal etc) will go over tiles just fine and a hell of a lot of pros do it for good reasons.
There is nothing special about the type of tiles you need.0 -
just re-read foxys post. it wont create problems in other parts of the house due to weight, your only risk is if the weight of the old tiles+new tiles is too much they can come off.0

I've tiled a whole wall, over tiles using the same adhesive as was used on the first layer of tiles. Absolutely no problems with it at all. It's been done for at least 10 years now.I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.0 -
My Dad, a time served tiler who , among other things tilled the QE2 & Polaris submarines & is an obsesive compulsive perfectionist;) tiled over existing tiles in my bathroom 7 years ago, they are still sound, as long as the tiles are level & secure its not a problem.0

like i said theres loads of it about and (as you havent made clear in your post) if its a floor then old tiles are a great substrate.
gotta ask - do they really tile polaris submarines? i love the idea that they are down under walking around on nice limestone flooring :rotfl: spose non slip really matters!0 -
tpt....It was in the late 60s & they were tiled throughout with quarry tiles...even under the reactor! He was an apprentis & says he was the only one skinny enough to get under it:rotfl:0
