purchase of concrete house from council-screwed over

purchased our house 6 years ago from local authority we got discount of 16,000 after being tenant for 25 years the authority had already purchased our house and bought it back from previous tenants due to the fact they were supposed to be dangerous we had work done on them and were told that they were now mortgageable we are in a high interest mortgage as my husband was self employed not until recently we went to sell house we were told they were in not repaired properly as they have no certificate of work i am now stuck in a house that we may not be able to sell due to this bromley will not buy it back as they were opening a can of worms surveyors classed it as different class of house on report. how can local councils sell me a house the same one that had to be bought back and resell it to tenant in same state unbe noings to us until we looked into the facts we would get fined if we tried to do that dont no if we have any legal stand we could make over this. we would not have bought property with only 16000 discount when the house could cost us 60000 to repair common sense i think we could have gone on open market as this was our first time buying we assumed the solicitors would have guided us right but obviously this is not the case waiting urgently for some advice thankyou

Did you have a survey done when you bought the house?

I'm afraid I'm confused by your post.

Are you saying that you've lived in your house for 31 years (25 as tenant and 5 as owner), but the council sold your house to previous tenants more than 31 years ago? That would be very unusual.

When you talk about the surveyor classifying your house as a different kind of house on his report - when was the surveyor's report done? 5 years ago when you bought, or recently?

    Ditto..........

The tenants right to buy came in around 1981 ish.

Your saying your house was sold and bought back by the council
    over 31 (and more) ago.

People still buy concrete houses, its just that they cant get a mortgage, they are usually cash buyers.

No idea, some punctuation would do wonders.

I think she was a council tenant elsewhere? Could be wrong.
Was the survey done before the purchase? If the house is non standard construction, then the next buyer might not be able to get a mortgage.
Solicitors won't guide you if the house is ok or not, surveyor will point out the faults and let you make your own decision.

Do you mean you need to pay £6,000 to get the property repaired now? If it was bought 6 years ago, i don't think you can really blame the vendor (in this case the council) 6 years on. Your solicitor and mortgage company's survey should have been protecting your interest, not the council.

Your post is really difficult to understand, might be easier if you break it up a bit.

I'm assuming OP's property was a pre-fab concrete slab type - there are various brands but "Cornish Unit" is the one I am familiar with having lived in one as a kid!

Who did the rectification work to it? Are you saying that the local authority did the work before you bought it, assuring you that it would now be sound and mortgageable, and you now find the work was not done to correct standard?

Surely if you bought with a mortgage at the time, the lender should have asked to see the certification for the work before they agreed the loan?

The OP could have been a tenant in another house before this one which would explain away the 25yrs.

Although the right to buy as we currently know it came into being about 30 years ago, council houses had previously been purchased by tenants, but on a very small scale.
If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales
