Aggregators are not powerful enough to make every single insurance company ask exactly the same questions and accept exactly the same answers. Not even every aggregator ask the same questions with the same options as answers. Both insurers and aggregators want to differentiate themselves and this idea of everything being homogeneous isnt going to ever happen.

Yes, true, but again, in such cases the insurer should IMO make the following decision:

    1) We accept that the questions asked by the aggregator do fit fit our current question set but we will accept that where the policyholder has answered the aggregator's question set accurately the price quoted will stand.

    2) We do not accept the discrepancies between the aggregator's question set and our question set and therefore we will remove ourselves from that aggregator's panel.

As it stands we have a terrible fudge which is unfair on the consumer.

It appears that the FSA broadly agree:

    http://www.fsa.gov.uk/pages/Doing/Regulated/Promo/thematic/practice_gi_comparison.shtml

    Examples of poor practice
    • The quote given on the comparison site differs from the quote given on the brokers or insurers website, but no information has been changed and no additional questions asked to warrant a change in price.
    • The quote given by the comparison site excludes certain features (for example legal assistance and breakdown cover), but these features are then automatically added to the final quote price when proceeding through to payment on the broker's or insurer's website.
    • Figures given for the cost of optional extras are incorrect. In the majority of cases seen where the cost was incorrect, the comparison site underestimated the cost of the optional extras.
    • The information provided by the consumer to the comparison site is incorrectly passed to the broker or insurer.
  • something for every 1 to take into consideration when applying for insurance through a comparison site when you have convictions and they ask for date of offence it actually means date of conviction but what i dont understand is if you put the date of conviction instead of offence then you are giving wrong info to them and if you put it how they ask you for it its wrong as well it has totally mashed my head up

how do they get away with this and for so long and how many people have fell into this trap its just stupid and something needs to be done about it

thanks for the help every 1 even though ive still got no where

They do have the "catch all" of telling you it's your responsibility to check the details in a new policy when you buy one and inform them if anything is wrong. This will likely be their line of argument.
  • yea but the way i look at it is they have had my licence and then waited 4 months to tell me that dates are wrong so basically if i had an accident in the last 4 months they would of said i was not insured due to a mistake in the paper work so messed up so at the end of the day i have just been driving illegally for the past 4 months and paying them for nothing lol starting to think now can i claim my money back as i was paying for nothing lol

    Just to be devil's advocate:

At least they have come back to you - rather than others who await a claim before searching for any ways to get out of paying!
  • ive give up just rang to find out how much it will be monthly now 256 pound a month thats 2300 pound a year its only a peugeot 206 1.4 not a jumbo jet lol time to sell my car i think and back to the feet and taxis gunna be cheaper to do that any way there loss they could of had a few years motering out of me but ill wait till sept wen ban comes off and then a massive reduction in price will be 700 pound a third of wat im paying now whooooooooooooooooo
thanks every 1 for advice but it seems to me they got me over a barrel with it lol

Try and resolve the matter amicably.

You do not want to have a cancelled (by the insurer) policy on your record.

If you are definitely giving up driving, then see if they will allow you to cancel - rather than them carry out the threatened cancellation.
