Wightlink and Tesco Club Card Ripoff
You change your Tesco Clubcard points for reward vouchers.
In the small print when you get the vouchers, you cannot use them on the cheapest tickets, only on Flexible or Saver. But though are no saver tickets at any time of day what so ever. Therefore you have to buy the most expensive type of ticket to use the tesco vouchers.
(see picture below)
It wont allow me to post pictures yet.
The Tesco vouchers cannot be used online - but there is a £4 fee for booking over the phone.
They also make 7p a minute when you call them.
All in all, For me to cross with a motorbike instead of costing me 15.75 in cash each way, I have to use up a whopping £50.00 in tesco clubcard points plus the cost of the call.
I know Martin is a fan of club card points, but this just takes the biscuit.
Wightlink, you are the weakest link... goodbye...

Not really keen to defend WightLink, I believe their, and Red Funnel fares are some of the most expensive, per mile in the World.
However the T&Cs are available on the Clubcard website HERE before any commitment to exchange points for deals is made.0 -
You are right pompeyrich, there are some warnings made on the clubcard site about some of the issues I've mentioned, but the whole morality of saying here's your money off but you need to buy the most expensive tickets is wrong. Tesco should have just tell companies to take a hike if at the end of the day they can't afford a genuine deal, or Wightlink should make the deal less attractive, e.g. x amount in clubcard vouchers gets you less money off. This would be more clear and upfront.
Unfortunately this seems to be the trend these days. My gf got a bargain coach deal the other day to London with National Express, the ticket was £9 quid for the coach, but the loos in Victoria was £1, 11% of the ticket price.Warning: any unnecessary disclaimers appearing under my posts do not bear any connection with reality, either intended, accidental or otherwise.
