I'm guessing it's been removed as it's probably the culprit which keeps causing the site to go down.

The search function has been taken down while the techies are working on the servers. See webby's post here

If anyone's having problems the best place to check if it's happening to others is the Site Feedback: Questions and Suggestions board. Usually someone will have posted about it and often there's an explanation from the team.

No problem with it being removed, but it would help if the message given actually said what had happened, rather than a list of what might have happened. Doesn't seem to have improved things much - still very slow.
