Orange website - don't believe everything you read!

I received a brochure from Orange kindly giving me the opportunity to upgrade my mobile to a HTC 7 Mozart - on a new plan called Panther Extra 30 tariff.
Step one - I phoned Orange as advised on their brochure - three times - the last time I was kept on hold for 30 mins then was kindly informed that their office was now closed as it was 10pm. However - I listened to some very nice music whilst I was waiting but missed what Nick Knowles was talking about on the tv. Sorry Nick.
Step two - I looked at their website - Orange shop - and their Top Deal states that I could get 1000 mins plus free texts plus free internet. Great I thought - I tried to buy it but it only allowed me 600 free minutes.
Step three - I contact their customer service to be told that they have no control over what is offered on the website and 'probably the offer was for new customers'.
My response - another network - here I come!

  • Haha - no, don't care about DIY SOS - but I do mind when I am misled on a website and kept on hold for so long.

But lots of networks don't target mailshot existing customers with offers that can only be taken up by new customers...

All the OP needs to do is start again as a new customer. Orange couldnt care either way as you're still staying with them.

If the guys on the phone can't offer the deal they sent that you liked, ask if 'retentions' can do it? 'Retentions' seems to be the department that deals with people who might go to another network, and have greater powers than the normal guys, they may be able to sort you out (especially if it keeps you with them for another couple of years!)

Because mailshots and web deals are generally always different with mobile phones. Its how they get people onto deals which suit the company more then the consumer

  • Thanks for this Paddyrig - I took your advice, contacted retentions and was given 10% off.
