I received a letter from Atlantic today to tell me that prices were going up by 18% for gas and 11% for electric from September.
I knew I was on a 12 month fixed rate and had only taken that out in January so i rang to question. I was told that the 12 month fixed deal promo started in september 2010 and while I had signed in January 2011, the fixed deal was only valid til September 13th - the new prices started on 14th september.
I queried this saying that my understanding on signing a contract with them was that my fixed 12 month deal started for a year in January 2011. They said they would ring me back.
Apparently 'on checking', they now agree that the new increased rates do start from January not September as the letter suggests.
If you receive a letter about rate increases, I'd suggest you query if your contract started after 14 September 2010.
