can you have bookmarks at the side with crome

have just downloaded crome after having a huge memory leak with ff, crome seems a bit quicker than ff but i have all my bookmarks on the left hand side of browser where i can see them , can this be done with crome or is the bookmark bar along the top the only option ,

Bookmarks appear in a pop up, on demand....on the right though.

not quite the same as ff but for the time being i'll stay put

what are the current "best" browsers? am running windows xp, currently use IE 8(i think) have chrome but dont really get on with it--dont like the favorites but it does run faster than IE.
