Does anyone understand SORN

My car insurance for the year and road tax was both due at the end of last month and I declared SORN as I didn't have enough money to pay for both. (Insurance £729 and car tax £140 or whatever it is for the year)
OK I get paid next Friday so can I buy the insurance then get my road tax or do I have to wait 7 days after getting my insurance before I can get my road tax?

It's better to regret something I did do than to regret something that I didn’t. :EasterBun

Your insurance certificate just needs to be valid on the day your road tax starts. (The delay you mention is to do with people taxing on line whose insurance is taken out to start on the same day as the tax starts - often the database doesn't have the insurance details - but buying in person at a post office with the correct documents will be fine)0

dvla dont understand sorn

I declared SORN via the automated phone line and they said they would send me some documentation. Albeit I am still waiting for the documents.
As to the database not updating straight away that still means that I cannot drive my car until the road tax and insurance certificate arrive meaning I will have to wait for 3 weeks instead of 2.
I am sick of them company's using 2nd class post. It's better to regret something I did do than to regret something that I didn’t. :EasterBun0 -
You have only had 12 months to prepare for this eventuality.
What will happen when you only have 9 months notice of a major expense forthcoming.........:eek:0
