Moneysaving carpet places?

Hi Moneysavers,
I've got to the carpetting stage of my first home overhaul (at last!), and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions of the better (read, non hiked up prices) carpet type places. I'm assuming that the best known places are probably the most expensive (although I will investigate). Just hoping this might cut down the leg work a bit. I'm looking in the region of Redhill, so going down as far as Gatwick and up as far as Croydon. Basically anywhere along the bottom of the M25 is fine too!
Thanks! :j

Suggest you do the following:
1) Go round as many carpet places as you can to find a make, style and colour of carpet you like, noting these details down;
2) Search places on the net selling the carpets you preferred;
3) Call and haggle the best price, including delivery;
4) You could then try to see if somewhere locally will match it but odds are they won't.
Oh, and order your underlay, gripper rods and door bars off the Net too.
Then all you need is to find a carpet fitter who will do a "fit only" job. This is the hardest part, but not impossible
I did the above and saved myself over 30%.0 -
I did similar to Innys, carpet fitted (inc.u/lay & accessories) initially priced at £2,400. Got it down to £1,800 all fitted- haggle. I got my own u/lay & accessories online & got Carpetrights fitter to fit the carpet & c/right supplied carpet only0

We did the same as above poster, grippers underlays and dorrbars from net and carpet from carpetright, couldn't find their prices on carpet any cheaper online.0

Just in case your wondering I got my underlay, gripper & door bars from tradepriced.co.uk . Other posters on mse recommended them & I also found them excellent. I purchased Cloud 9 u/lay 9mm (as did loads of other folk on here)
And what surprised me is that Carpetright agreed (in the normal fitting price) for their fitter to fit u/lay, bars,gripper that I supplied without argument.0 -
I'm just looking now and funnily enough ^^^ Just looked at trade-priced but had never heard of them so its good to no that some MSE'rs reccomend them!
I no a carpet fitter and he said that you should buy your carpet from carpet right, get a fitter or order online your underlay and an independant fitter to fit. Works out much cheaper although slightly more hassle. Unfourtunatly he can't fit mine as we are moving to far away but just found out that friend of a friend in our new area is a carpet fitter so will see if he can do it at mates rates for us

Brilliant! Cheers for that everyone. Not working at the moment so have time to take the slower, more hassle but cheaper option. Thanks all for your input.:T0
