Can someone explain to me what the limits are on the Visa MFC Online card?

Does it have a transaction cap or what? I don't really see how its any difference to a normal card.

My son got one of these cards - 11 to 15 but he already works freelance(Web coding etc) and gets payed often for doing websites etc. He wants to know if he'll actually be able to spend any decent amount with his card.

£300 ATM Limit but no limit on chip and pin transactions, although it is an online card so will need bank authorisation to make sure he has enough in his account first

Of course, the biggest limit of the online card with Santander is that is with Santander. He can fully expect the card to stopped at random intervals for transactions he has authorised.

So at any normal shop this won't be a problem? Basically just places which are connected to the internet? This in some ways is better because it means he can't go into an overdraft. Also I always thought that was an electron. Whats the difference between and Electron and his Visa debit?

    Edit: Will this work online?

This card does work at pay@pump machines and it works on planes too, not all cards that are supposed to be "off-line" really are. In fact a Visa Debit card can be set up in many different ways even the unembossed ones. It is a mistake by Santander, but also I am pretty sure the Nationwide ones does the same thing. I would make sure you keep an eye on your bank balance and dont let it go overdrawn, or ask for a specific statement from the bank telling you the card can't let you go overdrawn, in writing. As it now comes under false advertising rules, so that is another avenue of complaint when they try and charge you after telling you "everything will be fine, this card helps you control your spending"!

Also, depending on how much he is making, he may also be liable for tax :)
