nPower customer, fixed for 1yr no extra cost

The last time I compared alternative providers for gas+elect the scheme I was on remained the better option, so no change.
I have been a bit slow getting around to checking if fixing of fuel prices is sensible. With approx 15%-20% hikes due, I finally checked with my current provider, nPower.
a) I was able to fix the fuel prices, fixed with no price increases and no exit fees (also keep the £100 disc for online billing) until August 2012......at no extra charge. Hmmm that was interesting.
b) Or I could have done it fixed until Jan 2013 at +10% and exit fees --- er, just another 4-5 months....not very interesting in comparison.
Maybe because I was already with nPower or something, I don't know. But fixing the prices for nil premium and no exit fees for a year was a no-brainer.
So, I went with the first one.
Just mentioning it in case other nPower customers have dawdled -- might be worth a phone call (today).
{Presumably I should have double-checked with a comparison site first, but I did not want to spend the extra time and the option was a do-nothing, so good for me.}

Good info, however the first option has gone as of end of July, so it seems you made a wise choice...Mixed Martial Arts is the greatest sport known to mankind and anyone who says it is 'a bar room brawl' has never trained in it and has no idea what they are talking about.0

The Price Protector tariff has now been taken off sale and thanks for the reminder I switched last week but had no record of it. Rang them and they explained I had to pay Monthly so switched to monthly direct debit. Explained I hate monthly direct debit and they agreed to only set it at £5 per fuel per month and I have to clear the remaining balance myself each quarter to avoid the amount changing. Me now happy till August 2012.:footie:

You know it's just their standard rate guaranteed not to increase until after the price protecter deal ends 31-7-2012, there are already fixes out there significantly cheaper, i.e EDF Fixed Saver 2, even longer term fixes like edf March 2014, and Eon July 2013 fixes, are not that much dearer than whay you've opted for, and their longer, might be worth considering0

I agree EDF have had a competitive fixed rate for sometime, online tariffs could be significantly cheaper than fixed rates (initially) but the increases can be crippling. Last Npoer price rise was 5.1% to standard, was about 30% on some online tariffs.Mixed Martial Arts is the greatest sport known to mankind and anyone who says it is 'a bar room brawl' has never trained in it and has no idea what they are talking about.0
