chimney removal - wibbly over constructor's letter

Ok, I think I just need a bit of reassurance here.

We'd like a fireplace & chimney removed top to bottom. it's a central structure, pretty much in the middle of our detached house. The letter that the quote's on says "we have not allowed for any major structural trimming, but from our visual inspection we don't believe that this is necessary".

I'm a bit worried that he's going to come back with a request for more money half way through the job. I'm probably worrying unecessarily here - he did the visit with the architect that we're using for our extension, so between the pair of them they would have spotted any need for more structural work wouldn't they?

They've said that they'll sort out building regs with the council, so if it's not up to scratch post-construction we'll know about it, but it's just the worry that they'll come back with an "oh we didnt realise about this" mid way through.

I'm already getting cold feet & they haven't even put any footings in for the extension yet !:o

IF your happy with the contractor, then insist on a quote. Speak to your architect & ask him about any possible problems ? Have any neighbours done this work? You could speak to them also to see if they had any unforseen problems.
