Hi, I got my passport 2 months or so before the wedding (church one too) you don't need anything else apart from your new passport! Just beware if you book anything make sure its in the same name as your passport.

Ring the passport office, I found them really helpful and they sent me the form needed. You'll need to get the vicar to sign it too.

Thank you was hoping it would be just passport as i suppose you have to wait for your certificate of marriage to come through the post :)

You can get your passport changed before you get married - like you said - there is a form where you sign half and your vicar/registrar signs the other half to say on such and such a date you will be known by your new name. As far as I know when your new passport arrives it can only be used on (or after) the day of your wedding. So say you get it done now, getting married in October but then decide last minute you want to go on abroad in September you wouldn't be able to.

Marriage certificates - certainly at a registry office they will have one ready for you to take home with you after the ceremony.

We booked the honeymoon in my new name before I even applied for my new passport.
We didn't need to carry any certificates - it simply validated on our wedding day.
  • omg, i forgot all about my passport. Am getting married 20th August, 2 and a half weeks time. We are also thinking of getting a late deal after our church wedding. Will i have time to change my passport? and how much does it cost?

    thanks in advance:o

You don't have to have your passport in your new name. My passport has 8 years left on it and i'm not paying to get another one until it runs out. As long as you book the holiday in the same name as is on your passport (so your ticket matches passport) you are fine.

U pay for a new passport so not worth it until it runs out so i wouldnt change it till then, only reason im having mine put in my married name is because mine ran out a few yrs ago so not paying £79+ for one in my maiden name then i know i will want to change it to married name which costs £79+ so will just do it 3 months before wedding:) just make sure your ticket is booked in the name on your passport and not your married name
