  • Can you tell us where you bought it from please grahawk?
  • Stocking fillers in Tesco - little pink & purple purses for our girls for 24p, christmas socks for 50p!! Also in the Christmas sell off there is tissue paper (23p for 10 sheets, red, green, & white), and stick on bobble things (14p for 6) which I got for my daughter's 'glueing & sticking' sessions.

Monsoon have gorgeous girls flip-flops for 2.40, normally 8.00, and I got some wellies today that were 12.00, down to 3.60, but they had a yellow mark on them from sunlight so I got them for 1.00 - they are gorgeous with fairies on them!! Doesn't hurt to ask if there appears to be a fault!

We've just bought the wooden fort. It's definately the lowest place I could find. I hunted everywhere! Last week they were £149, but apparently the price of timber has gone up! Still £164 isn't a bad price i think, reviews seem to be good.
the company who owns this store owns a load more too, gardencentredirect among them, it's called Kybotech.

Anyone looking for a good quality phone with answerphone and multiple handsets have a look at Comet.

They are selling the Panasonic KXTG7124ES (four handsets) online for £64.95 plus free delivery, the cheapest I can find it elsewhere is well over £100.

The stupid thing is they are also selling the same phone with 3 handsets for £99.95.

£35 cheaper with four handsets than three.

Edit:- 13th. Glad I bought ASAP price now gone to £119.95

This is a fantastic thread. There are so many events that we seem to be 'celebrating' all through the year. They seem to just come one after the other and I almost always buy 'after the event' as I get much more for my money then.

If you wait until just after the event then you can get things at really good prices.

For example, I don't really celebrate Valentines Day as it is so overhyped but one thing I do love is chocolate. Now as most of us will know, Valentines Day is on the 14th Feb but if you wait until the 15th or 16th of Feb, most shops over order stock and so they slash the prices so they can make more room for the next 'celebration day' which I think is Easter but I may be wrong. The chocolate still tastes the same but you can buy it at 50% off the original price or even 75-80% off.
Sometimes there are 2 or 3 events that occur within a month of each other so they have multiple displays with more than one event on such as Valentines Day and Shrove Tuesday (Pancake Day).

It is a lot easier for me to do it this way though as I don't have any children so can't succumb to 'pester power.'

Here is my list of 'celebration dates' in the year, if you buy a day or two after you will usually get a decent price but may not be popular with the family or OH!:D I have put in brackets what items go cheap after the event.

    2007 Dates

14th Feb - Valentines Day (cards, chocolates, flowers)
20th Feb - Shrove Tuesday/Pancake Day (pancake mix, fruit compotes, ready made pancakes)
18th Mar - Mothers Day (cards, chocolate, flowers)
8th Apr - Easter Day (chocolate eggs)
17th Jun - Fathers Day (cards, various gadgets, socks, mugs, chocolate)
31st Oct - Halloween (chocolate, childrens costumes)
25th Dec - Christmas Day (chocolate, cards, various gifts such as perfumes, make up, smellies, biscuits, nuts, also a lot of supermarkets are closed for 2 days here so will be selling short life goods really cheap or in some cases giving them away to customers).

Also forgive my ignorance but there are also other events/religious festivals whose dates change every year and also some events that I'm not sure of the dates such as Eid(s), Chinese New Year, Jewish New Year, Diwali etc.

I'm sure MSEers will come up with some more events.

Alcohol in November before the Christmas/New Year madness. Asda have buy three packs of alcopops for £10 all year but at Christmas it went to £2 for £8.

Actually they have Breezers on 2 for £5 just now so maybe after Christmas is a good time for them too!

My birthday is the 16th feb - so my boyfriend has been known not to bother with valentines and just give me something on my bday!

Next celebration is really mothers day after valentines. :)

We got a car on 30th december - which we think was a good time - not many people were selling their cars in december so less choice, but we found the car we wanted pretty cheap. The garage was closed for new years eve and day so were trying to meet their end of month targets.

We also got some lights in asda from their christmas stock. 8 metre clear rope lights for £3.50 from £15!!! Bargainous - rope lights aren't just for christmas anyway - we can use them indoors or outdoors anytime - useful for outdoor bbq parties. Also some of those icicle drop fairylights for the balcony next christmas for £1.60 reduced from about £8
