Back Boiler Help

Hi, I am sorry if this is the wrong place to post or if there is a thread i have missed. could anybody give me some advise on a back boiler. I have just bought my first house and in my wisdom thought it would be easy to decorate and get things smart. Seems people were right and jobs and maintenance take forever. Not to say loads of £.

I have a back boiler and i need it pulling out and a nice shiney new one putting up. My main question is, am i better off paying more for somebody like british gas to do it, but meaning i am better covered? or do i keep searching for an independent?

i am thankful for any help at all, x

Keep searching for a local and recommended independent. You will save a fortune and have just as good back up as BG supposedly give you, if not better.

Chances are if you had BG, they would sub it out to a local anyway these days.

If it involves the chimney, you have to think about the flue lining.
If it involves scaffolding, going up to the roof, it's the opportunity for doing:

    Pointing, flashing, cracked tiles, leaks,

Ignorance is bliss. Just put a vase in front of it. :D

Bearing in mind that the new boiler will have a totally different flue system, the flue won't need lining.

The first question should be: WHY do you want another back boiler?
If the answer is: "A simple swap should be the cheapest option" forget it.

A condensate pipe needs fitting if your going to buy a new back boiler. If its the fire front you don't like, you may be able to replace it or if you don't use it, remove the surround and cover it with a custom radiator cover.

    hi,

thanks to everybody for the replies. just to clarify, i was hoping to get the back boiler pulled out and a combi? boiler put up. as i have been told that is the most efficient boiler to have. i know a need a longer chat with a professional but that was why i wondered if i should find an independent or BG/equivalent expensive company.

If you want a good laugh at extreme quotes, then by all means get BG in.

I have now done a quote against BG. I managed to go in approx £3000 less and still make a very good profit out of it, without cutting corners and using better specified materials, if I get the job.

I hope you haven't bought a 50" Plasma for watching standard resolution streamed video. :p
