Hi
It's that time again when my contract mobile phone can be upgraded.
I'm considering a Nokia N73 and I believe I could run TomTom on this if I buy the software and a Bluetooth GPS Receiver.
Anybody done this and is it worthwhile? Also, is the N73 a reliable phone or are there better ones (such as Sony Ericsson)?
Any comments appreciated.

Hi,
It depends on what firmware you get with the N73 and which Network you go with....
UK Networks provide the N73 with different product codes. Firmware updates are only currently available for certain product codes. I have read that SIM free and Vodaphone UK owners have been able to upgrade the firmware to the latest version (V3.....). 3UK and some O2 users cannot.
The V2.068.0.0.1 firmware has many faults such as the dropping of Bluetooth connection. Unfortunately I have this firmware as I am with 3UK. There has not been an approved firmware update. Therefore I am currently unable to use my Navicore Sat Nav software properly.
The phone does seem good although a little slow. I would think that once Nokia and 3UK sort out a firmware fix then the phone will be a whole lot better. Well others with the latest firmware have stated that the phone is vastly improved.
It is a shame that Nokia produced the firmware with so many bugs to start with. Added to that the fact that Network Operator's are not obliged to approve firmware updates. It has been rather a nightmare to point out this problem with 3UK and Nokia. After many comminucations with 3UK they started to look into the matter. However, it is not yet resolved.
Look on the Nokia discussion forum on their website for more information regarding N73 issues. Many people are not happy with Nokia Customer Services due to not receiving replies to their contact emails or receiving replies just telling them to contact a Nokia Service Centre.0 -
My personal advice on this one is go for a nokia e50, ive got one at the mo and am made up with it and ive been through a good few phones of all different makes in my time. Im currently running TomTom sat nav on mine and its 100% reliable, never had a prob with it yet and its as good as the standalone unit TT GO 300 i had. If you need any more help or advice just let me know. Thanks

Thank you.
I've been offered the N73 with 200 minutes, 250 texts, stop-the-clock and Vodaphone passport for £25 per month. Biggest downer is they want an 18 month contract.
I'll have a look at the e50 and get back to them. Otherwise, I might risk Dial-a-Phone and move to O2 where the N93 on a similar deal works out at just over £20 per month for 12 months.
