How long does it normally take to receive deposit back?

How long is normal before you receive a deposit back after moving out of a rented house?
Letting agent sent round an "Inventory Clerk" from another company to do the checkout survey of our old place 2 weeks ago and I have still to hear a peep out of them. The previous time we moved out, the landlord wrote us a cheque on the day we moved out, but he was a decent bloke who only lived half a mile away and this time the house was managed by an agent.
Have phoned landlord who says it is in hands of letting agent. Rang letting agent who say they "haven't yet received the report from XXX Inventories". They seem unwilling to chase it up, which is hardly surprising as it's not in their interest I guess.
Our deposit is lodged with the DPS but they can't do anything until they are given the go ahead by the landlord to release the cash. I don't know how long it takes - is 2 weeks+ normal?

Read the DPS's help pages - you can start the Single Claim procedure if agent/LL fails to respond to a written request for the deposit within 14 days of the tenancy ending:

Thank you for that may_fair. After once again getting nowhere with the agent on the phone I will raise a claim with the DPS.0
