Tiebreaker comps

Does anyone bother with these?
And has anyone won anything by completing a tiebreaker?
I never normally bother with them as I don't know what they are looking for - is it a play on words? Something witty? Something heartfelt?
Any tips as it seems some of the bigger comps use tie breakers a lot
In a similar vein - when they ask you in 50 words what you would do if you won or why YOU deserve to win the prize what angle do people go for? These also leave me a bit stumped - has anyone ever won any of these?
Cheers and apologies if these questions have been asked before, I'm a bit comping obsessed at the moment

I've entered a few of these but only in the last couple of weeks so don't know whether my efforts will be winners! I tried to go for the style for which their advertising already goes for, like for Orange I said something about the future... Not very confident though. lol.I've been lucky, I'll be lucky again. ~ Bette Davis0

Theres a good website I use here which can help with tiebreaker slogans:

Your chances of winning are higher with these because they deter a lot of people. One of my best prizes (a personal shopping experience in Debenahms) came from a tie breaker comp. As a family, we got about £1000 worth of clothes and other stuff from this.0

I've only recently started entering these competitions and I've used the winspiration site before as well.
I've entered a few just lately, and am waiting to see how I did.
Although it's only my first few attempts and I think there are lots of expert compers out there with more experience, but I live in hope.
I've also bought a rhyming dictionary to help me along.
Apparently there aren't as many tie-breakers around as there used to be.0 -
I used to be a regular comper but don't seem to have the time now.:(
However I always entered slogan comps and over several years won many amazing prizes. These included a wide screen tv (to watch the world cup about 8 years ago) a leather recliner and £600 vouchers for Pizza Hut. In the end I was giving them away in the street as they had an expiry date only a few weeks ahead and we had overdosed on pizza! This all came from the same comp. The good thing with some of the other prizes was I was able to share them around my family. A bike for my nephew and a dolls house for my mum. A weekend away for my mum and dad. Anyone who spots a tiebreaker comp I'd say have a go. They are usually lower entry so you might be in with a chance. I used to go for witty phrases plays on words, that kind of thing. I almost won a trip of a lifetime to Australia once but was a runner up. Guess what I won ...... a lousy tee shirt! Oh well.... Good luck everyone.0 -
I won a runner up prize in a competition. The first prize was a trip to Alaska, runners up got a tea towel (which I still have). When I was in my comping heyday I noticed that the same old slogans seemed to win time after time. I did win a couple of good prizes, though. One was a weekend in Scotland, which I gave to my daughter and her husband. They said it was the poshest place they had ever stayed in. My husband and I went for a week in the New Forest, all expenses paid. I also won loads of little prizes, especially for my grandchildren. Good luck!0

Actually I meant a dolls house for my niece not my mum!
I also used a rhyming dictionary and a book of common phrases to help me be inspired. Good luck to nayone who has a go. I might get bac k to it one day.0 -
Just posted a tie-breaker to win a balloon safari in Kenya, can't think of an answer yet though...

Hi everyone, just passing through & thought I'd say Hi,,,,,,,,,
Don't give up on the slogans, they're the only way to win without relying 100% on luck, I've had some amazing prizes over the years,,,,,,,,,,
Stick with it, learn what type of slogans win & what don't,
