Above ground swimming pools - any good?

In these really hot days, this type of things seem ideal for those of us with plenty of room in the garden.

But being Miss Practical, I'm wondering,
Are they any good?
What about the jacuzzi types?
How do you keep them clean?
Also, do you empty them out in the winter?
If so how on earth do you get rid of the water?

Was a 40 a day smoker for 20 years.
Decided to give up, and haven't had a fag for 12 years.
Halfway through losing six stone.
Looking forward to early retirement.

How do you keep them clean? a fine net to get floating stuff out, you can also have a skimmer which when the water circulates catches top dirt, the pump supplied is very cheap and nasty, has a filter and the water passes through it, add chlorine every 2nd day ish. you buy test strips to check water baddies.
Its all quite easy really, the biggest downside is heat. get a solar cover it helps, but for one of these forget about buying a heater, not enough insulation on pool.
All in all, a really nice item for the summer probaly set you back with just the basics £500. have fun
BTW will try and find the supplier of oursDiv 1 Play Off Winners 2007

We've had an Mspa jacuzzi one but we unfortunately overinflated it and burst the seam! We sold the other bits recently for £120 so we did get back a fair bit of money. We will buy another next year but didn't want to pay for one now for it to spend nearly half it's warranty packed up in the garage. We were really happy with it. The heater got the temp up to 40degrees which was lovely and the bubbles were great. We did quite a bi of research and decided against the lay z spa as had lots of faults on the heaters. The guy that bought our working bits says he buys the Mspa to hire out and says he thinks they're really good value and has very few problems with them. As for keeping it clean as prev poster says a skimmer net and we put a couple of teaspoons of chlorine in each day. We emptied it last year and packed it packed into the box for the winter. It has a drainage tap and hose to drain I out over the garden. We bought ours off eBay and will do again next year.0
