Hey
Ok, thanks Stitchy I'm going to try this wonderweb stuff… Wish me luck! This will be a challenge. Might even fix my other trousers at the same time…
Only other problem now is that I hate ironing. Oh the traumas life brings :rotfl:
Other small things:
- OH bought monthly travel card - better than £11 a day, saves about £2.50 a day.
- Brekkie at home
- Free cuppa in work
- Checked banking and cc - need to list stuff out and see what to pay when - bill is generated on 16th so if I pay some off before then then it won't appear on my bill - ie paying some out of this month's salary and some out of next within the same month IYSWIM.
- PAD to balance transfer cc - rounding it down to a nice round figure
- Put pennies in the pot, about 16p
- Transfer to Virtual Sealed Pot - have been slacking with this recently and it's a great way to build up a little pot so best get back on it!
- Big shop tonight - write list before we go (using mysupermarket.co.uk and print out list) and use MOC
- Tied hair up - double benefit of not needing to straighten hair and didn't mind that I've not been to hairdressers - trying to put it off until September :cool:0 -
Morning all!
Just back from the bank sorting out my new finances with the helpof a mortgage lady and a financial advisor - almost 2 hours!
BUT they were both very helpful and very understanding (about the OH separation situation) and have effectively made me debt free!:j:j
Basically, I currently have an interest only mortgage with a repayment endowment thingy supposed to repay it in 15 years time - I've never been overly comfortable with this (the risk etc) and wanted to change it anyway. They advised I cash the endowment in (approx £25,000) pay off my only debt (£12,000 left on a loan) and put the rest to the mortgage. THEN, swap the mortgage onto a normal repayment one over the same term as the existing one and hey presto I have NO DEBT (apart from mortgage), the mortgage payments are approx the same as they are now, and I have reduced my monthly outgoings by £350!:T:T
They had to explain it a few times as it seemed to good to be true but it is real!
The credit search revealed that I have the best rating possible (was surprised at that;)) and the mortgage has been accepted and is going through as we speak!
A MASSIVE WEIGHT OFF MY MIND!!!:):)
So it'll need a bit of financial jiggerypokery for the next month whilst everything is set up but from Sept I'll be debt free and have more surplus cash - hurrah!
Other DFW things for today (although that was the biggy!)...- Taken library books back DONE
- Dropped a load of books off at charity shop DONE
- Walked dog DONE TWICE
- Will have all food from stores DONE
- Stick to diet DONE So far
- Do the glossing in the spare room and downstairs loo ready for the new carpet and flooring on Saturday DONE
- Phone carpet people to make sure they're coming before I rip up the old flooring
- Finish sorting the books out DONE almost
- Try to dismantle old desk DONE
- Write a shopping list for the weekend DONE part of it
- Do a little happy-relieved jig around the living room!:rotfl: DONE DONE DONE!!!

I'm a fan of Loch Lomond too: I live 20 mins away, it's where my OH proposed.
Just booked a mini break to Skye climbing...can't wait. Used the library computer so as not to use too much electricity. Just need to get one more night's accommodation fixed. Also borrowed guide books from the library. We've been up there many times but it's nice to have fresh ideas.
Had a nice barbecue from stores at lunch time.Debt-free day: 8th May 2015 "Remember that sometimes not getting what you want is a wonderful stroke of luck," Dalai Llama0 -
Helloooo everyone!
Nearly halfway through the working week, I am ready for the weekend already :rotfl:
Managed to catch up a bit with flying & a few others bits last night so feeling a bit less stressed, although there is still more to do!
Ally - Sorry to hear about your electricity bill shock, hope it's not as bad as it sounds!
Candy - At least you have a nice reward to motivate you to get debt busting
NTBY - Really? This does surprise me! You simply must go & see another band you really love, it's one of the best experiences in the world I think, I'm addicted! I am slowly tackling said addiction by trying to limit myself to bands I've either not seen already, or haven't seen recently...or in the case of Iron Maiden, was just dying to see again
But anyway yes, go do it! Hope the motorbike lesson goes well, that's on my list of things to do as well, just can't afford it yet.
Stitchy - Hope you sort the cc issue out, I think NSD's are good in some ways in that it motivates you to not spend any extra, but I agree with Josie if you're strict with yourself anyway there's not much in it.
Welshwoofer - That's fantastic news! Really pleased for you

Hi all
Well, the sun's gone in - rubbish! Have managed to spend no money so far which I'm quite pleased with, free food has helped with the vending machine munchies though... Off home in a mo to do my essay and maybe measure up my Ebay items to check on shipping costs so I can actually get round to listing them and get my bedroom back!
Hope everyone's had a good day, WelshWoofer, what a result on the mortgage, you must be pleased! La Escocesa - what's a Virtual Sealed Pot?
Right, best get back to my minutes, nearly done then I can go home!:T

It's a challenge on the diary board...shall dig out the link... https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/2896760
Basically every Friday you round down your bank balance to the nearest £10 and save it. "Sealed pot" because you don't dip into it until e.g. Christmas and "virtual" because it's a savings a/c and not an actual pot on your shelf... Really adds up nicely and I never really notice the £££ leaving (and I do like to work with round numbers
