Vaillant Turbomax 242E not firing

I took a shower yesterday morning and the boiler fired up as usual. Later in the day I flicked the time clock to constant for central heating and it failed to ignite. Now it doesn't work for hot water either.
The electronic ignition is working fine; the fan kicks in; the water pressure is where it should be; the problem is, there doesn't seem to be any gas reaching the boiler.
Any suggestions?

Thermocouple?0 -
Is it a combi? If so is there sufficient water pressure in the heating system.
An interesting fact about Vaillant boilers is that they ALL have the same backplate format so - in theroy - if you need a new boiler it can be accomplished in a fraction of the time if you replace with a modern version as all the pipes etc will be in the right place! That's what I understand anyway.0 -
It's a combi, with the correct water pressure.
I'm not sure what the thermocouple is! I'll find out.0 -
From what I can figure out, a thermocouple is used in conjunction with a pilot light. So would it apply to electronic ignition, which is what I have?0

Hi
Are any lights on on the display panel or error codes as this may have locked out.

No codes, no. The only light is the red flame light with a line through it which indicates a ten second attempt at firing has passed. I have turn a switch to get rid of this and have another go. The electronic ignition sparks away and then the red light comes back on.0
