no claims bonus error?
I've had private insurance for one year, i put it on hold temporarily for about 3 months.
When I cancelled it after the year ended they sent me a letter confirming and giving proof of no claims bonus.
However, it says I have 2 years no claims bonus? Can this be right? Is it because I put it on hold?
I put 1 years no claims on my car insurance so does that make it invalid?
I'm confused!

they might have given you one year as an introductory bonus.
If you've got new insurance then make sure they've got you down as having two years or they'll send you proof of two years at the end of the policy instead of three.0 -
Part of me says "don't look a gift horse in the mouth", the other parts says "I know you or I don't have 2 years NCB", might be best to clarify.
You've only driven on the policy for approx 9 months so something amiss. Remember the farce of 11 month policies a while back, only on renewal would it be realised no ncb was earn't for incomplete years.I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)
Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed0 -
Well they said on the phone when i put the policy on hold that I would still get the 1 years no claims at the end of the policy.
Reckon it's best to ring them?0 -
You aren't being very clear - did you have 1 years no claims at the start of the insurance term or 0?
If you had 1 year at the start, suspended for the last 3 months and they still sent you proof of 2 years no claims then I wouldn't hesitate to use the 2 years bonus. If you had 0 at the start and now they've sent you 2 years I'd query that0 -
Sorry, yes it was 0 years at the start of the policy.0
-
In that case i'd just contact them and query whether you have 2 years no claims or not - be quite vague on the phone, i.e literally call and ask for them to confirm how many years no claims they have listed for you0

I'm probably going to get slated for this, but ignorance is the best way forward here, take their word for it that what it says on the renewal letter is accurate, who knows how these schemes work? Call up your new insurers and say you have just had your renewal through and it says 2 years NCB not one, please can you amend my policy and reduce the premium accordingly.
Unless you're 18 and/or have held your licence for less than 2 years, this should be the end of it. Not your fault you relied on duff information from your previous insurers is it?
I do agree with the post above as well though.. call up "oh, hi, I'm still waiting for my renewal to come through, please can you tell me how many years NCB I have so that I can get quotes?" is all it takes.0 -
if you have 0 yrs ncb most companies give you an extra year at renewal, certainly the likes of churchill and their associated companys do.0

oooooooooh yes!
Admiral advised me that the cheapest way to insure two cars (as their multi car pulled my pants down) was to cancel the current insurance and they'll match my NCD; and start a new policy for each car.
What they actually did was cancel my policy and give me an extra years NCD, then started the seocnd policy with a matched NCD of the previous year - so i had 7 years on one and 8 on the other. They also said that the discount would only be held by them and if i went elsewhere I'd have 8 years on the original and 1 year for the second car.
At the end of the policy they sent me two normal proofs of NCD, one with 7 and one with 8 and i've had no issues with insurance companies accepting them and honouring my NCD0 -
thanks for the advice people. Surely if I ring up and query it and ask how many I have and they say two years, and I have it in writing, then legally i've done nothing wrong by using it?
Should I say i thought I only had one?0
