Have you had a good or bad Experience with Home Service?

My post is in no way knocking Home Serve for my recent experiences.
I also do not have a problem with tradespersons who take care in their work and my property.

Generally if will be nice to hear if you have had to claim from them over the Christmas and New Year period and how quick your engineer attended.
Also did you have an engineer that doesn't protect your ceramic tiled floor.

On the 31/12/06 at approx 18.00hrs I called them as my toilet would not flush.
I mentioned to the operator at the call centre that I suspected the toilet siphon to be at fault.I gave no reasons at to why,but if prompted I would have mentioned that a similar occurrance happened a couple of years ago on my older system. It wasn't mentioned so the operator decided to remind me that according to his data, that back in 2004 I was asked to change my system as the attended engineer has spotted a slight ceramic mould error at
the water exit(where the white main pipe flush pipe sits). This is when the ceramic was kiln dried. No cheap system this was a Heritage circa 1980.
It appears they had not amended the data when I contacted their call centre
two weeks after the engineer had attended to say my whole bathroom has been replaced.

Too cut a long story short I had to phone again at around 2000hrs. and was advised that they were still waiting for the engineer(he gave the name which I remember as he attended back in 2004).The engineer did phone soon after and arrived at 2100hrs. on a filthy night of wind and rain clearly a busy chap.
At the door my feelings were he thought it might be the same system that he advised me and the insurance company needed changing.

Personally I was waiting for him to say that something else needed replacing.

He completed the job in about half an hour (I still can't understand why he still bangs his heavy adjustable on a ceramic tiled floor....Did he miss the bit in the training to look after the customer's house)Use a towel man.
He worked like that when he came in 2004.

Then when he asked for a signature he then mentioned that I needed a new ball valve arm as there was a slight leak.Turned out the leak was only on the rectangular bit shown in the diy section of my last post.
I didn't want to argue with him on New Year's Eve, but isn't the insurance for leaks?Surely he would have had a top he could have billed them for.

To make things worse,I had a call from a local network of plumbers office
yesterday morning as they had just been given the job to attend my non flushing toilet. This is after 36 hours of my call.Surely Home Serve wouldn't have left me that long.

I will be making a small complaint especially regarding the small leak.
What do I have insurance for and request that I will change the bit leaking but I don't to see that engineer attend my house anymore.

Oh don't forget If you go for the Plumbing and Drainage policy as for £5000 of cover not the standard cover they offer for the same price.Mine and my parents cover was upgraded following a British Gas £99 scheme offered about 2 years ago.You should pay £64.99 as you get a £5 discount if you are changing to Direct Debit or it is your fist time with them on Direct Debit.Make sure you ask as the extra cover gives you valuable loft cover too.
Also you get unlimited call out instead of just 2 internal and 2 external per year.
If they get shirty ,tell them your friend has the increased cover at no extra charge following British Gas muscling in!!

Edit.Thy are sending a different engineer to rectify the problem. When they call I will ask if they carry equipment to not damage my ceramic floor in the bathroom.

All repaired with a Torbeck.Well chuffed.Floor not damaged either.

We had a shower leak into our hall. Called Halifax insurance who recommened Homeserve.

plumber#1 arrives 4.45pm, gone by 5pm. didnt bring any tools with him, just said it was the shower seal gone, dont use it for a few days.
Halifax man comes, sees its still dripping, says to call Homeserve and complain. Homeserve lovely, send someone out same day free.
plumber#2 arrives with tools! says its a pipe leak, but he cant remove any tiles etc as we dont have that insurance with the halifax. confused but not caring (other stuff happening at time in lives), we rip out tiles and half of wall to expose pipes. call up homeserve and they arrange to send plumber#2 back out.
plumber#1 comes instead of plumber#2 looking rather redfaced and apologetic, fixes leak.

Got a phonecall from Homeserve and a letter apologising for plumber#1, so although they can balls up, they did fix things asap.
