Ireland Travel Tips/Advice

We will be travelling to Ireland in a couple of weeks time and are wondering about the cost of stuff. Fuel should I fill before we leave or is it cheaper over there? Crossing from Fishguard to Rosslare, is there a duty free shop on board the ferry? Any recommendations on what to take or buy other there....

Petrol is around the same at about 150c per litre. Diesel is cheaper at around 145c per litre. Duty free does not apply between EU member countries. Things in Ireland are generally expensive for UK travelers, due to the strength of the euro against the pound.

We do the same, we top up before we travel. Don't know about that crossing as I won't do it because I'm strange like it, but when I went Pembroke Dock to Rosslare there was a shop onboard where you can get perfumes, but not duty free, the prices where not like that onboard when you travel to France :o We found diesel cheaper there than we did here, overhere, Petrol is cheaper than diesel, but it's vica versa there.

You know something that may shock, I didn't find the prices THAT bad when I was over there. Although I could be more immune as the prices where I live in the UK, are not that cheap for groceries etc

Last time I was over beer was very expensive compared to where I live. Food and everything is really pricey - especially if you are going to small stores in more rural areas. So take as much as you can with you, I would - but I guess that depends on where you are staying etc when you get there.

    Have a great time!!!!!!!

We normally stock up before we travel up on a few things, but that is mainly because by the time we get to our cottage, it's quite late, and we don't want to go into a shop late.

Hi Which ferries do you all go with - sister wants to drive over there in october but the price is coming up at £268 return for two adults, one child a car. Daft thing is she can get a package flights and car hire for less (but cant hire as she doesnt have a credit card!)..

I am going with stenaline, but I cheat and booked it with my holiday cottage. I can't hire a car either for the same reason, well not me, whom I travel with.
