Ryanair airport purchases

Sorry about all the ryanair questions guys.. I've only ever done packages before, so I'm not very familiar with budget airline rules.
Basically I've read on the ryanair website that we can only take 1 piece of hand luggage each and can't take airport purchases onto the flight separately (as a separate bag).
So how does this work then as whenever we've been abroad before your bags etc are weighed before you get to all the shops... So could we shuv the airport purchases in our hand luggage as they will already have been weighed or do they get weighed just before you get on the plane?
I doubt we will be buying much at the airport, but was going to buy snacks to avoid the ridiculous costs on the flight.
If it makes any difference we are flying from Liverpool.

Lots of threads here already discussing all the issues with Ryanair. Have a read of a few for luggage issues.

Their rules are one bag only and any shopping that is bought afterward security must fit in it, although they seem to have arrangements with some airports (Liverpool being one), that you can carry a bag of stuff bought post-security as an extra with no penalty.

They will often check size at the gate so if you cram extra stuff in it may no longer meet the criteria for size. I have also (at Prestwick) noticed them weighing bags at the gate as well.

There are no exceedingly long flight from Liverpool so you could eat before you leave home, or bring something and eat if before boarding, and avoid the possibility of any problems.

If you work on the basis that they are very strict on:

1) Size of bag - 55cm x 40cm x 20cm
2) Weight of bag - 10kg
3) Number of bags - 1 (handbags, carrier bags etc all count as a bag)

Then you can't go wrong and won't end up with a £40 bill at the gate.

As has been said there appears to be notices at some airports that Ryanair now allow one carrier bag of 'airport shopping' in addition to the normal 1 bag but only the Bristol airport website confirms this.

We flewfrom East Midlands and there were notices saying you could have a bag from duty free as well as your one piece of hand luggage, am pretty sure it was the same when we flew from bournemouth last year.

Thanks for all your help guys. I'll wait and see what the signs say when we get to the airport.
It is only a short flight (alicante), but if snacks are offered on the flight my kids will want them.. Hungry or not!
Good to know that the snacks arnt too expensive on ryanair though, I'd expected them to be rediculous xx
