these are the colors normally found. (although not always).
the thing to remember is that only terminals 2 and 5 are required for a domestic line.
so it doesnt really matter what colors you use, as long as you wire the correct terminals together.
although it makes sense to follow on from the colors already in use.Get some gorm.0 -
Ahem. It DOES matter what colours you use. Telephone cables consist of twisted pairs [<colour> + white, white + <colour>]. This is good for reducing interference and also for matching the line impedance with the incoming line, which avoids signal being echoed around in the cable between mismatching joints. Probably no great difference for voice, but definitely makes a difference for ADSL signals.

Stick with the pairs where indicated 2&5 and 3&4Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -
Thanks for the replies but did I connect it correctly.
Yes or No?
I did google and found the diagram as posted above but I`m just using a plug-in connector from the master BT socket and two wires of the extension are just one solid colour with no "bands".0 -

you wanna tell that to the BT (so called) engineers.
ive seen every color you can imagine, being used.
and combination of colors.Get some gorm.0 -
just because BT do it, it does not make it right.you wanna tell that to the BT (so called) engineers.

There was an old colour scheme which the GPO used to use, which did not have the pairs so readily identifiable - unless you knew them. That may explain some of your observations. But I feel certain that anyone with BT from the GPO days would not split pairs - and even now, I doubt that many with Open reach would do it.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. Why don`t one of you answer my question, with a yes or a no?0

Ormus' diagram is correct, so perhaps you could answer? Why don`t one of you answer my question, with a yes or a no?
Your wire colours in your first post don't correspond to the correct cable. In particular, I would expect 2 and 3 to be <colour> with white stripe. Perhaps you could confirm?Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -

I bought this telephone extension kit four days ago and one end has a plug-in connector, which goes into the master BT socket.
The other end of the cable has 4 wires sticking out.
1 orange
1 blue
1 white with blue stripe
1 white with orange stripe0 -
Gently strip off the outer sheath for at least 100mm, preferably 200mm. See whether the bundle of wires teases apart to 2 twisted pairs - and whether the orange and the blue are in fact <colour>+white.I bought this telephone extension kit four days ago and one end has a plug-in connector, which goes into the master BT socket.

If the wires are not 2 twisted pairs, then the extension kit is not using the right cable. It will be OK for voice, but will degrade your broadband.
With twisted pairs, <colour> / white and white / <colour>, this is what is required for it to work right:Normally colour 1 is blue and colour 2 is orange.2 colour 1 / white
3 colour 2 / white
4 white / colour 2
5 white / colour 1Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0
