More importantly, why pay for all that food no one likes? Honestly, I don't know why we torture ourselves with sprouts and turkey every Christmas. We don't buy it at any other time of the year in my house!!

With a bit of menu planning and understanding how to put any leftovers to the best use:-

    a) you won't buy foods you don't eat,
    b) you'll buy less but eat just as well
    and
    c) it won't be as expensive ;)

Just like most things in life, it's all in the planning.

Totally agree - in fact we've done just that several times in the past - it means one of us isn't spending the morning in the kitchen and missing all the fun with the kids - and the kids don't mind as, only being little, they're not into big elaborate dinners anyway.

We'll do a 'Sunday dinner' either Christmas Eve or Boxing day, but that's as close as it gets.

We always have our christmas dinner about 4ish on christmas eve, we started doing this when we had four children under 5 years old many moons ago and we have kept the tradition up.

Aye, my mum loads up Christmas dinner plates with everything, and her moto is 'if you don't like it, leave it' so my brother and I mostly leave the green bean things in the pods, and carrots and stuff and the sprouts [everyone leaves the sprouts!] and... *blink*

I'd be happier if they left more room for the stuffing, yorkshires, chicken and bread sauce etc ;)

What I did this year was parboiled all the veg and fromabout 3 days before Christmas when I had more time, and then just had to stuff them in a steamer for 20 min - the turkey was one of those Turkey joints from Tescos - just stuck it in the oven - hardly any preparation at all. I must admit that i was tempted though as our local church was offering free Christmas lunches, and would have gone their if it wern't for the fact that we had bought all of the food in.

You won't believe this but my 3 year old not only adores a roast dinner but also loves eating sprouts, cabbage etc. He shouts hurray whenever I say I am doing a roast. His 13 and 10 year old brothewrs are disgusted that he likes veg so much. The eldest in particular would much rather have a McDonalds.

I love beans of toast but maybe not on Christmas day becuase I'll treat myself and have beans with little sausages instead!

It always makes me laugh when I go supermarket shopping at Christmas and see people buying like the world is going to end.
