Goworldgame.com - Beware

Options

I returned two games to this company (based in Thailand) in October 2006. Despite them being very co-operative in the first instance and approving a refund for returned games, they have not been forthcoming with such even though I have emailed them constantly to ask for an update on the situation. Now, their website goworldgame.com appears to be 'under construction' and they can only be contaced via Email which they ignore anyway. I have contaced Paypal as the money was collected by them via my bank account, but they cannot help either. Does anyone have any idea how I can get my money back? I sent the games via the post office to be 'signed for' at the other end, but as they will not contact me to confirm the games have not reached them, I don't know where I stand.

This is my first posting - be gentle!!!!

  • Hi twinsmum - your story is absolutely identical to mine! Suddenly the email responses have dried up, after initially being quite responsive. I bet you were returning games after discovering they were foreign, and would not work on your UK platform? There was wording about this in the description, but in normal text, right at the very bottom of the description - should have been in red at the top I think.

Anyway, apparently the reason they are changing their website is to make that clearer, at least that was the message a little while, it's changed now.

On the Royal Mail website, my package's traking still says 'passed to postal service in Thailand', so theoretically it has not been delivered, so no surprise I have not got my refund. Now, I suspect the reason it has not been delivered is because I did not put a Customs label on the package. I didn't know I had to, and guess what, the good old Post Office staff didn't point out that it was necessary - not very good in my view. So, quite possible Thailand Customs have intercepted it.

I have put in a claim to RM, for the £30 maximum for that service. So far they have come back asking for proof of purchase, which I didn't get from GoWorldGame, I don't know about you? RM says they will accept a PayPal receipt, so that's what I will have to print out now.

Don't give up hope, good luck!

    Pete.
  • the exact same thing happened to me and Paypal were about as much use as a chocolate fireguard. They have told me that because I did not complain within 40 days (or whatever) that they can't do anything except make the users piviledges less which is laughable as they are not trading uder goworldgame anymore and the only e-mail address I have is a Yahoo one which is basically useless. I think that paypal are stupid as how can you predict that they are not going to refund you the money until it's too late, it takes 2 weeks to get the game (pirate copies in my opinion, none of this "imports") and then you need to allow another 2 weeks at least for them to receive the game and then more time to allow for the refund going back through paypal and into bank account which more or less takes up the time. In other words by the time you realise what's happening it's too late. The message on the website is ironic as well, they are updating as people don't seem to realise that the games are "imports" and so they are making it so that you can check a box to make sure you realise this!
Paypal told me to contact the police but I have yet to do so as I feel that they will think I'm stupid, it's only £17.99 that they took me for but I suppose it's the principle. Also paypal will not tell you if anyone else has complained but obviously Twinsmum has so maybe that might help, if more people complain there could be a case to answer...

If you are sending a letter or parcel to Thailand by air mail then it will take no longer than 4 days max to get there. There seems to be a spate of website opening up selling CD's which are coming from over there. Always use your judgment the chances are that most of the music CD's and DVD filma are all copies. Origionals are dearer to buy in Thailand than they are here. They all deal in copies so please be aware.
  • Thank you all for replying. There are some unscruplous thieves out there aren't there. Same as you Pete with the games and also the Post Office. I have put a claim in but heard nothing back yet.

gg31568 - I had the same arguement with Paypal about the time limits being unrealistic. Apparently, they cannot make exceptions for individuals!!! Perhaps if they took note of what was going on, they would realise its more than a one off person that's being ripped off here. I have threatened to close my Paypal account, but then all my history is lost, so any chance of an argument going any further is also lost.

I have contacted an obudsman, outlinging my complaint to see if they can help - guestt what - no reply!!! Why is it, its those who work the hardest to scrape money together for luxuries, get stabbed in the back. The lazy so and sos who sit back and just cream of us must have stomach ache from laughing. I know I'd like to give them something to ache about.

Fingers crossed for Royl Mail to come up trumps, but I ain't holding my breath.

    Good luck everyone.

Post up if anyone gets any further.
  • Same thing has happened to me. I have also e-mailed Paypal who were no use and told me to get in touch with the police. Maybe there's some way we could do something as a group. What do the rest of you think?

I have had the same prob with getting a refund from this company. Sent back a game in October 2005. Just decided to not push it no further as it was just £19.97. It has made me think twice about ordering with unknown sites. Will stick to uk companies now, safer that way.
A smile and manners doesnt cost any thing
  • Hi again everyone. Twinsmum, have you got anywhere yet?

I'm going to pursue this through Royal Mail, I think it's the only chance I've got. According to their tracking system, the item has still not been received in Thailand. My contract was with RM to deliver the item, and it has not, apparently, done that. So, I think I should be able to get back £35 (I think, off the top of my head), as the value was more than that, and that is their ceiling for that service.

So far the claim is not going smoothly (no, honest!). Initially they responded and said they wanted to see the receipt - well as no receipt was received ( ), I sent them a copy of my PayPal payment (which was in the list of acceptable proofs). Nothing heard since, so I'm about to light the blue touchpaper again!

I'll let you know if anything happens. Pete.
