Struggled during interview, can I save it after?

Oh dear... I had an interview for a perm job this time last week. I had some cracking answers for some parts but totally stalled others, I didn't come out feeling positive at all. The company have said it was positive and my pre-prepared presentation was good but they are interviewing more this week. I have been In touch to thank them for seeing me and offer my contact details in case they have any further questions and they have reciprocated this.
I'm just wondering if it would be pertinent to take up this offer and ask a few detailed questions in a last ditch attempt to impress? I certainly don't want to nag or annoy them or come off incredibly desperate, but if there is anything appropriate I can do post-interview to help my application I would be grateful to hear some advice on it!
Many thanks!

It depends on the type of work and type of employer it is but I think its unlikely that most reasonable employers would take notice of any supplementary contributions. Not least because they will need to be consistent for equality purposes if nothing else - and to show you favour by allowing your submissions might conceivably attract a claim from another applicant that they had been treated less favourably. Unlikely I accept, but most employers will want to avoid the risk.
Of course, they are unlikely to allow it anyway on the simple basis of not giving you two bites at the cherry. Why should they? You had your chance, you blew it, why should they give you a second chance?
On the other hand, what harm could it do.......?0 -
If you do take this course of action certainly don't say anything negative at all about your performance at interview. Just because you thought you ballsed it up doesn't mean they do and so you could be drawing attention to an issue that doesn't exist. Plus your not there to give an honest appraise of yourself but to sell as best you can.
Further communication can be good but yes you need to ensure that you aren't stepping over the boundary and starting to cause irritation... at most ask questions and then reply to their reply thanking them and adding how your experience/ skills suit the answers0 -

These were my thoughts, but then again have I blown my chance yet? I don't think it's a discrimination issue, any applicant could follow up on an interview and keep their face in the picture.
I feel like I'm fluffing it all over again as I can't even think of a useful question to ask!
Gosh I hate waiting and being out of control of my own life!0 -
Just leave it. You'll just sound desperate and put them off you.0

I think I agree. Just can't help but replay my ridiculous answers over and over.
They asked if I had any experiences managing finances and I said no, I totally forgot the success managing my own! D'oh!:rotfl: 0 -

I think a lot of the time we're harder on ourselves than an interviewer would be. You should try not to dwell on it (says me who's been dwelling on it for a week now
)
If nothing else, it'll be valuable experience for next time
ETA: Good luck0 -
I completely agree with this as you really don't know how you'll have done until they give you the outcome. They could be interviewing for lots of different reasons, if only for the simple reason of seeing candidates they'd already had confirmed. You'll drive yourself mad thinking of all of the potentials and what ifs, so wait and see (as hard as that is) and see if you can get feedback either way.I think a lot of the time we're harder on ourselves than an interviewer would be. In the meantime, keep applying elsewhere.0 -
Is this not the same as canvassing?0
-
I'm not really sure what canvassing is in a job sense?
As I say I certainly wouldn't want to annoy them but they did offer twice, in the interview and via email that any further questions would be welcome. I wouldn't want to make up nonsense just to keep up contact, but if I'm missing out on a vital follow up tactic then I'd be pleased to hear how I should approach. Clearly that's not the case here!
I am still chasing other jobs, sadly those I am after are few and far between so this is the only interview I've had so far and as everyone notes, distracting yourself from something so important is very hard to do! :silenced:0 -
Well canvassing is basically contacting the the employer outside of the selection procedure and trying to influence them in your favour. In the public sector it is completely outlawed as far as I know.
I am not sure about the private sector. Some of the employment law legal eagles here would able to fill you in on the details perhaps.0
