when DD had her tonsils out 2 years ago. I was told by the hospital if I wanted her to have pian relief afterwards I had to take my own calpol onto the ward that would be taken off of me then given to DD. I really am not joking when I asked why I was told the pain relief for these quick in and out type operations cost to much.Mad Mum to 3 wonderful children, 2 foster kittens and 2 big fat cats that never made it to a new home!
Aiming to loose 56 pounds this year. Total to date 44.5 pounds 12.5 to go. Slimming World Rocks!0

oh come on... the only way a GP wouldn't prescribe is if the patient had to pay script charges and the medication was less than the cost of the script.
Seems like just on this thread alone there are a few GP that does not prescribed them....
If that is the only reason your GP don't prescribed them, then I say your GP is a rare gem out there.0

Of course a GP isn't going to prescribe if you walk in and say I want some for the cupboard all you need to do is when you go in and they're ill ask for it on prescription and ask for it to be put on repeat.
We have infant ibuprofen and calpol on script and we've had dozens of repeats over the years never a question asked and one time I asked if we could have 2 bottles of calpol on that script and that was done and now every time we reorder they give us 2 bottles without being asked.
As for the taking it to hospital thing, we had that when the wife had keyhole surgery to repair a hernia "bring your own painkillers" yeah because paracetamol really help with pain after surgery - twits. Worst part was she was crying in pain, buzzer wasn't working and then nurse said you can't be in pain you had keyhole surgery - goddamn NHS sometimes!!0

Seems a few folk confused also
The cost of a GP giving you calpol (paracetemol suspension) is WAY WAY more than just the drug costs
On average each script costs the NHS £11.80 to process without the cost of drug, so no, many GPs wont give it unless they feel the family is very hard up and they wouldnt buy it otherwise0

i had that as well when my son needed surgey. i personally dont mind buying pain killers for him. its when people take the pi$$ and demand the stuff for their kids that aint even ill. that really annoys me. a responsable parent will always have plasters and pain killers in their cupboard.narabanekeater wrote: »when DD had her tonsils out 2 years ago. Thanks OP got through loads the past week with 3 poorly little ones, not much fun over the summer holidays
Just to add when mine have had ear infection etc GP has only ever prescribed cheap alternatives that my children wont touch - can say I blame them some have been horrid!! Only ONCE have I ever been prescribed the genuine thing and that was Nurofen by a locum doctor, I was SO excited when I got to the chemist (sad, I know:o) as kids medicines cost a fortune!0
