    Thanks OP ,
Worth noting that you can get calpol on prescription from Gp , I always get some if I take kids for sore throats etc . If I do have to buy it myself I will always go supermarket or chemist brand as has the same ingredients but at a fraction of the price - however I think the price in this post would beat even them !!

not all GP would be happy to prescribe calpol as it would be coming out from their budget. They generally do not like to prescribed medication where you can get off the counter. But if you found a GP who are happy to do so, then you are in luck :D

No GPs in the area I live will prescribe it. Thanks OP :T
  • If you live in Scotland you can get Paracetemol Suspension (generic Calpol) through direct care - meaning you just go in and get it from the chemist :)

what a load of absolute tosh

a generic version would be prescribed as the cost is "PENCE" (literally)... if your GP wont prescribe a paracetamol suspension then i'd be reporting him/her

    depends on the situation really.

if your child is ill, has a temperature, is in pain etc. then yes, it should be prescribed.

if someone comes in with a child and randomly asks for some (to stock up etc.), then no, it should not be prescribed.

    Oral suspension 120 mg/5 mL (= Paediatric Mixture), paracetamol 120 mg/5 mL, net price 100 mL = 72p, 150 mL = 84p, 200 mL = £1.05, 500 mL = £2.00

not expensive.... but they adds up....

you could get quite busy to report all of them

oh come on... the only way a GP wouldn't prescribe is if the patient had to pay script charges and the medication was less than the cost of the script.

I always get mine under the Pharmacy First scheme. Its provides free medicines for minor ailments if you don't pay prescription charges. I don't know if you still have to qualify for this to get free kids stuff or not but worth a try. Your doctor is charged when you use this service. I just pop into the parmacy and a get a bottle every now and then, ether paracetamol or ibuprofen bottles.
