What size is your laptop harddrive.... Vista needs at least 20GB and then you will have to take into account any programs you want to install. Then you will have to leave enough space for XP to be installed and use as well.
As for the dual boot.... This is no problem for VISTA.. your main thing will be creating the partition but you could use a number of free programs for that..
One thing to remember is whatever partition VISTA is installed on (D,E,F) it will always turn that partition into the C: drive when you boot into it. I have had XP and Vista dual booting for 3 months now with no problems.. There is no difference in installing vista to another partition.. all you have to do is remember the letter of the partition you want to install it on0 -
