I'd stay away from the Netgear SC101.
I had one and NEVER got it working properly.
I wasn't the only one who had problems with it.

105 out of the 173 gave 1-star reviews.
You can tell by their price on ebay they're a bad 'un.0 -
Just the enclosure.
Generally aim for £50-100, and push it for a NAS with really good reviews if you feel it will be the best bet.
Additionally I would make sure it is 3.5" form factor for the HDD's, as they are cheaper/space ratio than the 2.5" (laptop HDDs).
For the HDD's I would watch the SCAN today only deals, as I picked up 2x1TB HDD's for £80 last year.
Are you comfortable with knowing which HDD's to buy? If not feel free to post the NAS you're thinking of up here and one of us can point you to a good HDD.First Time Buyer to Be!

Don't do what I did, which is buy a 2-bay enclosure only to fill it up with data within a year*! Plan ahead and think about how many mp3s, videos and photos you might want to share, whether or not you will do backups to the NAS and whether you want data redundancy (ie some kind of RAID array) to protect your data.
By all means put some numbers up here and as tibbyuk says, we can advise. I do have a secondhand* original version Synology 2 bay NAS you could have cheap ;-))0 -
Shame - just missed the buffalo 500/1000 gb nas @£29/44 from ebuyer this weekend.

But I think people are selling them on ebay from £50 and they are £78 ?? on Amazon. They can have another usb drive connected for more space, use 10W and are quiet.

if you want to watch the films straight on to the TV one of these http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=400212379857 is easy enough. NAS to Cyclone via USB, Cyclone to TV and off you go0 -

I've been happy with a Buffalo Link Station. While it is not without flaws, for my farly simple requirements (shared files between multiple computers, always on) it has been super. The one I have is no longer sold but a newer bigger, cheaper version in a curvy box can be had from Amazon for around £100 (for example Buffalo LinkStation Live 2.0Tb ).
Read the reviews, the 4 & 5 star reviews are similar to my views of my older product.0 -

From first glance, the D-Link looks like it could have problem streaming video files, seeing one commenter stated it is designed not to stream to PS3.
I don't own one, so can't recommend a specific device, but looks like other MSE's have some good opinions
