Npower to back bill or not to back bill
I've recently been sent a nice letter from Npower stating that my bill is higher than normal and I need to ring them to sort it. I rang them and I have a whopping £2600 gas bill (back dated from 2005).
Apparently for the last 6 years I have been giving them incorrect 3 digit readings, when it should be 4/5 digit readings. I have asked what happened to the gas engineer readings that have been taken over the years, and have been lead to believe that there haven't been any? (they have to look at them every 2 years and a reading is part of that - so I find this hard to believe).
However I am also awear that Npower are signed up to an agreement to only back bill for 12 months, they are saying that this is not a back billing case as I have been giving the wrong readings? Have the engineers been giving the wrong readings too?
My gas meter was moved to outside my property in 2006 - by Npower and I think this is where some of the problems have come from.
This has now been moved to the complaints department with Npower, but I was wondering if there was anyone else in a similar situation.

If the meter readings on the bill do not relate to the actual meter readings at the time (and you failed to notify the supplier of this error to give trhem a chance to rectify it) then the 12 month back billing rule will not apply.
Hopefully nPower will come up with a goodwill/compromise solution that is acceptable to you, especially as this appears to have gone on for so long. As you say, they have a licencing requirement to read the meter at least once every 2 years."Now to trolling as a concept. .... Personally, I've always found it a little sad that people choose to spend such a large proportion of their lives in this way but they do, and we have to deal with it." - MSE Forum Manager 6th July 20100
