Barclaycard cancellations

Yesterday we received a letter from Barclaycard informing us our credit limit was now £1.00 and the account would be cancelled after 60 days, effectively making them useless from now. We are not allowed to apply for a new card for 6 months, we will be refused. Our offence? We had not used the cards for 7 months. We have held one card since 1974 and had a Barclays account since 1968. No forewarning letter was issued following company "policy" according to the Teeside call centre, though the Indian centre assured us one was sent mid July, porky pie time from one of them. Has anyone else had the problem and apart from leaving Barclays after 43 years what can we do?

Hmm... what do you *want* to do?

Prior to the 7 months, how much use did you make of the cards? Do you have other credit cards? If so do you use the other cards regularly?

I'm guessing that "after 43 years" you are retired or nearing retiral. If so, (and on a limited pension) it is not necessarily a trivial excercising getting a new credit card.

Without the answers its difficult to give a meaningful answer to your question.

You obviously do not need the card so by cancelling it should be no problem to you. Also by them cancelling your card they can give your credit limit to someone else who may make better use of available credit.

I have been with Barclaycard for years myself, I paid off £1200 last week leaving a balance of £38 on the account.

I have just had an email from them this afternoon dropping my credit limit to £40 from £2500.

One less card to worry about, and as has been said if in the future I need another card there are plenty of other providers out there........
