I was on Scottish power's online energy reward.

Have checked today online on my account and noticed that i have been put onto their standard tariff. On friday i sent an email stating that I wished to exercise my right to cancel as advised in my contract terms and conditions. I got an email back saying it had been recieved and i would be contacted within 2 working days. It also sent a copy of what my email said so i have proof that i sent it.

I sis also try to ring to them to cover myself incase this happened but i couldnt get through as there was abot a 2 hour wait.

I have also noticed that i have not received my £105 energy reward.

This the one which matured on 31 July? If so no big deal on what to do, you are free switch without penaltyy. Scottish Power should already have contacted you with a maturity offer. Take that into consideration if they failed you on that.

I suggest you immediately do a whole of market comparison using a Consumer Focus accredited comparison website. Up to you what you do but (yesterday) there were still a small number of reasonably competitive fixed price tariffs available. Be aware that if SP offer you a "maturity tariff" it is not easy to work out if it is a good deal because "maturity tariffs" don't appear on comparison websites.

If you are on "31 July", your Reward was earned on 7 June.

Putting in meter readings seems to force out the Reward payment. Also worth doing to help calculate their overcharge on the standard tariff.

i took my readings yesterday and sent them in online but it said they were unable to process them online and that they would be sent to a customer service rep who would contact me in 2 days.

I have applied to edf fixed tariff v2. Thats why i emailed SP on Friday to say that i was moving to edf and so invoke my right to cancel.

Therefore I assumed I would be kept on the energy reward prices until i changed to edf, assumng edf contact SP within 15 days from when i contacted SP.

Ill keep checking my account for the £105 though.

No, once your tariff expires you are moved on to whatever tariff your T&C's specify (normally the default is Standard). You can't invoke a right to reject an increase on a tariff that no longer exists. However what you should now get is Standard at the pre-increase price, assuming that you are within the required the required timescale, and initiate your switch within 15 days.

You may have been put on that product now that the "reward" tariff has finished.

The time to worry about this is if/when you do actually leave and get your final bill. That's when they should only charge the old prices (throughout) as long as you (and edf) have kept to the right to cancel conditions.

That is a good point. However the OP alleges he wasn't contacted pre-maturity, contrary to the tariff rules.

If that is true and he complains forcibly enough he should get compensation worth more than the increase.

thanks for all the help. i see. ive got it all wrong.

so i should have gone onto the standard tariff but at pre increase prices. that makes sense.

i will make sure i double check my final bill when it comes through.

sorry jalexa i forgot to mention i did receive an email a while back saying that my tariff was coming to an end and that i would be put onto the standard tariff. It also said that if i choose to move supplier i could do so without charges if i contacted SP prior to the 1st August to let them know and then the compnay im moving to (EDF) would need to contact them within 15 days after that.

Thanks everyone, you have all cleared this up for me now.

The OP gave notice on friday 29th July 2011, so was within the period specified in their letter. So he is entitled to be billed on the Reward tariff until the switch is finalised.

Because of the late (but legitmate notice), he has been transferred in the meantime to standard. As i understand it,they will do this for all switching customers and refund any overcharges on the final bill. It's a half soaked process but nothing surprises me.

    The SP letter said'
*If you notify us that you wish to do this before 1st August 2011 and we receive a request for your supply from another supplier within 15 working days, we will not move you to our standard monthly Direct Debit prices or charge the agreed cancellation fee.

By writing to them on the 29th July he is within their timescale.

The letter confirmed the OP won't pay the "standard prices" providing he meets the conditions - so far so good isn't it?
