Help please Hot water boiler coming on when off!

Hope someone can give me a bit of help - my hot water has intermittently been switching on when it is meant to be off - last night it was on for hours and got so hot boiler was banging and shaking. Was at off position on control - only managed to stop it by switching off at pump. There is also water leaking from boiler. I think I should get a plumber out but just wondered if anyone any ideas what it could be or if it it big problem and is it ok to leave pump switched off for now? Any help appreciated - got quite scared last night!

Turn off the electric and the water then get it looked at asap.

It is serious and could be expensive, but it's more importantly dangerous. If the safety valve is stuck, well you don't want to know.:A

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

You don't want a plumber, you need an RGI who is GSR (Gas Safe Registered).
Some plumbers will be qualified to work on gas appliances, but many will not be.

Do you actually mean the boiler, or, like many householders, are you calling your HW cylinder the 'boiler'?
  • Thanks to those who replied. The plumber I got out was Gas Registered. Gas4u I did mean boiler not HW cylinder. Plumber Said I needed a new pump as was only coming on, on two setting not three also a valve was stuck so £375 poorer but I guess safer! Thanks again

Better a little poorer than a little deader ;);)
