For puzzle five, I used the proper names, not the mixed up letters. I applied the numbers of puzzle six in an 2-1-3 order, but that gives an anagram I can't make sense of and I'm stuck there. hth

I agree with novo on those answers.

Is it possible that the discretionary clue is only for the purpose of confirming you have the right answers for puzzles 1-5, and that the actual solution to no.6 is worked differently?

I don't think so... the fact that all twelve letter sare alphabetical seems to be a good confirmer that these are the right letters?

Brain re-engaged, I see the clue to puzzle 6 actually confirms that puzzle 5 answers should be the names, not the jumbled letters, and hence I too now have

AAACEMNRSSUY

Which leads me to think SCAREY USA MAN might be my best guess.

Use the Ath answer to the Bth puzzle, and take letter C.
Note it is answer, but still keeping answers 1 and 5 to just 5 parts, i.e. not using 10 answers, just writing multiple answers on each line, then counting letters along them.

You mean puzzle 4 should have 5 lines, so two answers on one line? Then the anagram changes to aaatemnrssry

No. The clue to puzzle 6 highlights that the answers to puzzle 5 are the written names. Puzzle 4 (345 and 243 in the hint to puzzle 6) seems to imply that is written as my answers, i.e. all 10.

So 5 should be
5.1 Byron Carol
5.2 Elgin Immel
5.3 Grant Miles
5.4 Kamal Locke
5.5 Stacy Tyler
