Argos failing to refund

I purchased a pair of Sofa`s from argos at the begining of june,i was told a delivery date,but it never arrived.After a few phone calls,we find out they are out of stock,we then ask if we can order a different sofa,only to be told we would have to wait seven days for the money to be refunded to my argos card ( i did not have enough credit on the card to order another).At this point,we were desperate for a sofa,so we ordered one,using my debit card,the sofa arrived on time,only to be faulty.......so they collected it back.This was over three weeks ago.After a week we asked were the refund was,they told us it had been refunded & wait a few days,again we call them,we get several reasons fron the banks refused the refund,to the latest one is,its gone to head office & they have done a manual refund,which takes seven days( which was eight days ago).Now i got my argos card statement yesterday & the original sofa,we never even got,has not been refunded & is showing on the statement,so we ring the argos card,who put us through to argos direct,who tell us they can not refund because we never had the sofa & pass us back to the argos card,who say argos direct have to sort it...........can anybody give any advice.

Put it in writing and send recorded delivery, Detailing the price paid and the date and also any fees
or interest added to the account if any.

Obviously the phone is not getting to the correct person.
