Nationwide credit card or prepay card in France?

Not been abroad for 2 years but going in 3 weeks time and trying to get my head round the changed Nationwide charges, plus all the other options.
Have a Nationwide Gold credit card, had it years so no charges on transactions - yes? But there would be a charge to withdraw money. Given my timescales, does it make any sense to pay money into NW credit card account so there is a positive balance and then withdraw cash using that card? By my reckoning I would therefore not incur interest charges. Or am I still better off to go for one of the prepay debit cards if there is still time?.
Also have a John Lewis Mastercard for other backup
