Broken Toy

I recently bought my 9 year old son a remotre control car. After playing outside in the road with it for 2 hrs max, one of the wheels has snapped off.

I took it back to the shop it was purchased from and they said they would not exchange as it showed signs of extreme use.

Is this acceptable after only 2 hrs use when the toy is designed for children from 5 yrs?

How long should it be expected to last?

How long it should last is partly a function of price - was it a £20 model, or a £250 one?

Did he hop it off a curb, crash it into a lamp post, try driving it off a parked car?

The thing with kids is if they think something will be hard wearing, they'll kill it.

If you left your son unsupervised on the road with a remote control car, I'd be willing to bet that he was giving it the full dukes of hazard treatment, when only the more epensive models can cope, and only then if they're the crazy Tyco RC ones designed to flip (do they stillmake those?)
