Cancelling internet order

I want to cancel an order i placed earlier this evening. I e-mailed the company to explain this and they told me that they would have to charge a 20% cancelling fee. Can they do this under the distance selling reg. I explained that there is no mention of this in there website and there reply was " no company will list these details on the website, we have rights to deduct 20% from refund, it is justified and legal". Are the correct in saying this, "legal"?

Assuming this is not a Business to Business transaction and not for personalised goods then NO they cannot!

You can cancel anytime upto 7 working days upon receipt of goods without penalty.

So email them back and tell them you wish to cancel as per distance selling regulations and remind them legally they have to refund you all money including postage.

    They are talking nonsense!!

Thanks for that, It's for personal use. Tried to contact credit card company to cancel but they were closed. Will get back to them now. Thanks again.

Also to add, legally they have to refund within 28 days so if they are being awkward now, they will probably drag it out for the whole 28 days.

I don't think you will be able to as the transaction has gone through/been authorised. Stick with the DSR and you will get your money back eventually.
