What shall I do with windows/conservatory company

I selected a local company changed my windows and conservatory in May. I already paid total amount of our windows and conservatory on May 14th. However, there are following several problems left:

1) When I paid on May 14th, some sealant (between frame and wall) at front door and kitchen door still needs touched up. I was promised that the touch up will be done on May 17th. Unfortunately, this still not happened till now.
2) There were a few rains these days. I found rainwater drain pipe of conservatory was leaking towards conservatory door.
3) The quotation includes "10 year guarantee that includes all glass units, fitting and 25 year guarantee against discolouration. Insurance Backed". But I didn’t receive a letter from Insurer to confirm the guarantee.
4) Conservatory door is not able to be locked at day time because it is warm. I guess the reason is clearance not adjusted very well.

I sent several e-mails to the salesman and customer service of the company and also made a phone to them. I was told that the problems will be resolved but never happened.

What shall I do now? Thanks for your advice.

Sorry to hear about your troubles ... but why oh why did you pay in full when there were still problems ?

Even large contractors normally have to wait a year to get their last 10% after a job has been finished. This retention is to help the contractor remember his duties, when problems occur after the build is complete.

The Citizens Advice Bureau is probably your best bet. Was the contractor in any building organisation, such as FENSA, The Federation of Small Business, or The Federation of master Builders ?

Maybe write to your local newspaper ... a bit of bad publicity can help matters .. maybe write to the builder first, stating you are going to contact the press in 14 days if the problems aren't fixed.

    God luck !
  • Thank you, WLM21. Yes I made a mistake paying them too early. They were pushing very hard to get payment and I thought the risk is low.
